1. Course Description
Course Objectives
|
This course will provide the students an opportunity to physically experience the contents in the general chemistry 2 class through series of experiments. The experiments are chosen based on its relevance to the general chemistry 2 class. The students will learn meaningful information and chemistry skills from this course. Strive to find connections to real-life situations in some of our experiments here.

- Evaluation Method
1) Laboratory reports (60 pts) : Writing in lab-note, evaluation guide line : information quantity
a) Pre-experiment report (20 pts)
- Principle of experiment(10 pts) & Procedure (5 pts)
- Chemicals and instruments (5 pts)
b) Data & Results (20 pts)
- Quantitative results ; Data & Calculation, Table & Graphs
- Qualitative results ; Observations
c) Discussion (20 pts)
- Error analysis
- Assessing the results
- Summary and Conclusions
※ Laboratory reports must be submitted by the deadline, or there will be a late penalty.
※ Grade is 60 for each report and penalties for late assignment incur(-5 pts). One day late assignment are not acceptable(-60 pts).
※ Assignment submissions must be the student's own work. Should copying occur, the student who copied the work will automatically receive a zero for the assignment.
2) Activity (20 pts)
a) Doing assigned pre-experiment (10 pts)
b) Explanation of experiment methodandthings to improve (5 pts)
c) Presentation of experiments results and Suggesting Improvements (5 pts)
3) Attitude (20 pts)
a) Lateness and Lab Safety (lab clothes, protecting glass) (15 pts)
※ Attendance will be recorded. Excessive absences (two or more) may result in a notification sent to your parents and the school authority.
※ Attendance will be graded as follows:
- For no absences and no late arrivals, you will receive 15 points.
- Being late will be penalized -2 point per each class.
- For one unexcused absence, you will lose 15 point
- Anyone who has more than three class-long, unexcused absences will receive an "F" grade for the COURSE.
※ The failure to comply with lab safety rules will adversely affect my laboratory grade (-15 pts) and will be cause for dismissal from the lab.
b) Cleanliness and Concentration (5 pts)
※ For behaviors inhibiting learning environment (studying for other class, chatting, taking a nap, etc.), penalty is -2 each time.
※ Cell phones and computer games (-5 pts)
※ After finishing the experiment, You must clean up the lab table and equipments. (-5 pts)
※ If students positively contribute to the learning environment during class, they can receive credit (+5 pts).
